Introduction

The department of agricultural engineering is one of the first four engineering programmes of the faculty of engineering of Evan Enwerem University which took off July, 2006 with Ewwlike A.D as the pioneer head of department. The department admitted its first set of students in November, 2006 and by this academic year (2009/2010) they are in 400 levels.

The department of agricultural engineering offers a five year bachelor of engineering (B. Eng) degree in agricultural engineering for candidates coming in through the unified university matriculation examination (UTME) and four year B. eng programme for direct entry candidates..

Philosophy and Objectives Of The Programme

The agricultural engineering programme aims at producing high level man power who combines the knowledge of agriculture and engineering to improve the land thereby enhancing the productivity of food and fiber. Graduates of the programme are expected to use their expertise to play a leading role in solving national food problems. The programmes are therefore designed to emphasize four main areas.
I. Farm power and machinery
II. Soil and water engineering
III. Farm structures
IV. Processing and storage
The programme allows sufficient interaction with other related professions in engineering and agriculture to gain skills needed in the field. Both general and specialized skills gained by graduates of the agricultural engineering programme will help them be in control of resources, human and material, needed in the food production sector. Practical’s as well as the theorical aspects of the programme are adequately addressed.
