The department of animal science and fisheries of Imo State University is based on the philosophy of producing the appropriate manpower for increased productivity and animal protein through direct participation and mobilization of the rural populace. The major objectives is to produce self reliant agricultural graduates that would be able to manipulate their natural environment towards profitable livestock and fish production and at the same time be able to contribute meaningfully in activities aimed at increasing animal protein supply through ever increasing population.
In addition to having an acceptable pass in UTME- a candidate seeking admission to degree programme in animal science and fisheries must obtain in not more than two sittings, five SSCE or GCE O’level credit passes including English language, chemistry, biology/ agric science, mathematics and any other 2. At least a pass in physics.
Holders of ND or NCE certificate in animal science or related disciplines with not less than a merit level may be considered for direct entry admission into the 200 level of the programme while holders of HND with not less than merit me be admitted into 300 level of the programme, provided that the candidates concerned have met the minimum UME requirements.
