The Department of History and International Studies offers 4years degree programme leading to the award of a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in History and International Studies. This may be awarded with honours or as a pass degree.
Man and society as a whole has so many unique attributes. This uniqueness could be formed out of several factors which may include social, physical and cultural environments. This uniqueness could be a positive factor which can promote peace, growth etc. it could also be a negative factor that could bring about discord amongst different nations. Hence the need for an indepth study of humans and their environment. History and international studies in short is designed to acquaint students with the experiences of men and societies in different social, physical and cultural environments so as to make them appreciate the forces which shaped the destines of nations through the ages, as well as those which are of contemporary relevance.
A. The program strives to develop many of the ideals, abilities and benefits traditionally associated with historical scholarship.
B. The program (with its emphasis on the content and methodology of Nigerian and African history in the context of international development) reflects the belief that a proper humanistic scholarship, apart from being indispensable to an educated individual should provide some perspectives on related disciplines in law, the sciences and the natural sciences.
C. The history and international studies program also emphasizes the international disciplinary approach to the study of the development of human society.
D. The program also has an aim to contribute to the development of the country Nigeria and Africa as a whole through joint researches, seminars and workshop activities with national and international organizations.
Admission is through the University Matriculation Examination (UTME). UTME Candidates must obtain 5 ordinary (O/L) credits including English language, History or Government and any other three subjects.
