Introduction
The programmes of studies are therefore divided into three cycles: the first is a four-year program leading to bachelors’ degree. It offers a basic philosophical formation for students intending to continue their studies in the further cycles of the faculty or in the faculty of Theology.
The second cycle is a four-year or three-semester-program leading to the licentiate or masters degree. It offers a sequence of more advance studies directed both toward philosophical synthesis and toward specialization in a selected field of philosophy.
The third cycle leading to the doctorate is mainly devoted to personal research and to the preparation of a doctoral dissertation. Ordinarily the completion of the third cycle takes at least two years.
Philosophy and Objectives
The traditional core philosophy made up of metaphysics. Theory of knowledge, ethics and logic, combined with studies of the major personages in ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary philosophical thought are to be studied. Social effort will be made to bring into focus the philosophical endeavors of Africans or themes based on Africa. To broaden the base and appeal of philosophy, its applications in the various areas will be covered in things like philosophy of science, philosophy of technology, philosophy of law, philosophy of education, medical ethics, business ethics, media ethics etc.
Admission Requirements
UTME:
In addition to having an acceptable UTME score in any four subjects, candidates must possess five ‘O’ level credits which must include English language at the SSCE/GCE O/L.
Direct Entry:
For direct entry candidates, in addition to the general university entry requirements, the candidate must possess two ‘A’ Level passé Arts, Social Science subject. NCE or ND/HND in any subject especially in the humanities is acceptable.
