DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH

  • Imo State University

Philosophy of the programme

One specific aspect of medicine that presents a number of philosophical questions that need to be discussed immediately is public health. Metaphysical queries like "what does the term "public" mean in public health" are part of the philosophy of public health. What is the proper way to think about "populations"? Are they just collections of people?

It also covers epistemological issues like which approaches are best for thinking about public health. What connection exists between normative and empirical issues? It's also important to take into account contentious ethical, political, and social concerns including immunizations, the possibility of pandemics, potential limits on individual freedoms, public health research, screening, and obesity policies.
