The basic focus of the Department of Social Sciences Education is to train Social Sciences teachers who are academically and professionally competent to impact knowldge at any level of the education system. We achieve this with a parting Bachelor in Education Degree (B.ED) in social science Education is to turn out dedicated and reliable social science educators knowledgeable in their respective areas of academic interest and skillful in classroom management as well as in dealing with human beings. In more specific terms, the programmes are aimed at:
1) Producing highly motivated, conscientious, skillful, innovative and efficient classroom teachers for all levels of Nigerian educational system;
2) Training teachers who are mindful, proud and protective of the socio-cultural, political and economic institutions of Nigeria; and
3) Equipping teachers of the social sciences with requisite physical and intellectual skills for effective leadership, followership and cooperative roles of different sectors of Nigerian society.
Seeks to acquaint her undergraduate student-teachers with the cumulative trends of past events that are relevant to current problems, needs and aspirations of the immediate and wider world, as well as the acquisition of the pedagogical skills and strategies to contribute positively and remarkably in the improvement of Nigerian educational system, and also become teachers without borders.
Five credit passes including English language and mathematics at the SSCE or equivalent in not more than two sittings are required for Guidance and Counseling in addition to acceptable pass in University Post JAMB screening exercise and UTME.
In addition to the SSCE requirement the candidate must have NCE with passes at credit/merit level or above in the areas/subject combinations.
