Introduction

The Department of Statistics offers courses leading to the award of the B.Sc. degree in Statistics. Admission is by Entrance Examination (U.T.M.E) or Direct Entry for candidates who possess relevant “A” level papers or equivalents. Candidates by U.T.M.E. are admitted to a 4-year degree programme while those admitted by Direct Entry do a 3-year Programme.

Vision

The vision of the department is to produce quality graduates who are employable and capable of applying statistics in many fields and also capable to research for the development of not only its own discipline but other disciplines for the benefit of our nation.

Mission

Our mission is to promote the knowledge and application of statistics in all fields where statistics is needed by offering training in statistics and statistical technology to our students and the general public in Nigeria and beyond.

Philosophy

Our philosophy is to support the academic missions and programs of the Faculty of Science and Imo State University. By doing this we commit ourselves to delivering quality educational experience to our students.

Admission Requirements

UTME:

Five credit passes including Mathematics, English language and at least two from Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Statistics, Further/Additional Mathematics plus any other subject such as Biology, Geography or Agricultural Science.

Direct Entry:

Two A level passes (graded A - E) at the Advanced level in Mathematics, Physics, and Further Mathematics or Statistics, HND/OND/NCE in Statistics from recognized institutions.
